Privacy policy

CaribbeanSphere (the “Site”, “we”) lists events and activities in the Caribbean and lets photographers and event organizers contribute photos and events. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what your rights are. You can reach us at contact@caribbeansphere.com.

1. Data we collect

  • Account: e-mail address, username and password (stored hashed, never in clear).
  • Sign in with Google: if you choose it, Google sends us your Google account identifier, name, e-mail address and profile picture address. We do not receive your Google password and we do not access your Google data beyond these basics.
  • Contributor profile: role (photographer and/or organizer), display name, picture, biography, website, Instagram username and country, as you enter them.
  • Content you submit: photos and event information (name, place, dates, description, cover image). Metadata embedded in photos (such as GPS location or camera details) is removed before the photo is stored.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type and server logs. The IP address is also kept with each photo you upload, for moderation and abuse prevention.

2. Why we use it

  • To create and secure your account, and to send you the e-mails needed to use it (address verification, password reset, decisions about your submissions).
  • To review contributor applications, photos and events before publication, and to prevent abuse.
  • To display your approved contributions and your public profile.
  • To measure audience of the Site (Google Analytics), with your consent where the law requires it.

3. What is public

If your contributor account is approved, your public page shows your display name (or username), picture, role, country, biography, links, and the photos and events that were approved. Your e-mail address is never shown publicly.

4. Who receives data

We share data only with the providers that help us run the Site:

  • Our hosting provider (servers and database) and Amazon Web Services (S3, Paris region) for storing uploaded images.
  • Brevo, to send transactional e-mails.
  • Google, for “Sign in with Google” and, if enabled, Google Analytics.
  • Pushover, which delivers internal notifications to our moderators when something is waiting for review (these notifications can contain a username or e-mail address).
  • Our log monitoring tool, used to keep the Site secure and available.

We do not sell your data.

5. Cookies

  • Strictly necessary: session (stay signed in), security (CSRF) and your language choice.
  • Statistics: Google Analytics cookies, to understand how the Site is used.

6. How long we keep it

Account and profile data are kept while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your profile and your contributions, except what we must keep to meet legal obligations or to protect the Site against abuse. Technical logs are kept for a limited period only.

7. Your rights

You can ask us at any time to access, correct, delete or export your data, to restrict or object to its use, and to withdraw your consent. Write to contact@caribbeansphere.com; to delete your account, send the request from the e-mail address of the account. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Children

The Site is not intended for people under 16, and contributor accounts are for adults or for minors with a parent's consent.
